Bicycle Tote

I’ve been seeing bicycles pop up on all kinds of things- pillows, wall art, figurines, and yep, tote bags.  I thought it would be fun to do a crochet version of a bicycle motif bag.  Bicycles make me think of summer and sunshine and all things warm and happy.  We need that here today because it is snowing!  Again.  It didn’t snow all winter long but now that it is spring and all the flowers and trees are blooming it keeps snowing.  Oh well, sit inside and crochet this bag and warm days will come soon.

Assembly

Line up side/bottom strip evenly around sides and bottom of front panel. With a large needle and yarn, whip stitch together all the way around. Repeat for the back panel.

Handles (make 2)
R1)On front panel, with black, in 6’th stitch from side of tote, join with sl st, ch 1, and sc in same stitch and next 5 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
R2) Sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn.
R3-95) Repeat row 2.
On opposite side of front panel, beginning in 11’th stitch from side and working toward side, join handle with sl st across. Finish off.
Repeat for back panel.

Lining the tote
Cut a piece of fabric 18″ wide and 26″ tall. Fold in half, right sides together, so that piece measures 18″ x 13″. Sew up 13″ sides.
On bottom, sew a 2″ gusset on each side. On top, sew a 1 inch hem.
Place lining inside of tote and hand stitch into place around top of fabric.
