Cozy Peppermint Blanket

Today I’m bringing you the Cozy Peppermint Blanket. This blanket just makes me want to snuggle up with some hot chocolate and sugar cookies! It definitely adds a bright spot to the cold gray days of winter.

I wanted to do alternating stripes, but I did NOT want to weave in all those ends! And so, I came up with a way of carrying the yarn that will leave you with minimal ends to weave in. Hooray! This method won’t work on all types of stitch patterns, but it does work well here and what little mess is created along the sides is covered by the border.

Blanket measures 53″ x 60″.

Supplies
(3) skeins of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight 7 oz. skein in red
(3) skeins of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight 7 oz. skein in cream
N/9mm hook

Stitches used
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Double Crochet (dc)

With Cream, ch 130
R1) Dc in 4’th chain, [skip next ch, dc twice in next chain.] Repeat [] across, ending with a skipped ch and a dc in the last ch. Finish off but do not cut yarn, instead pull the whole skein through and tighten.
R2) With red, starting at the opposite end from where you just finished off with cream, slip stitch to join at the end of the row, ch 3. Dc twice in between each set of dc. Dc in last dc, but change colors by dropping red and picking up cream for the last yarn over and pull through. Chain 3 and turn.
R3) Dc twice in between each set of dc. Dc in last dc, and finish off same as in row 1.
R4) Go back and pick up the red, sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3 of the previous row, ch 3. Dc twice in between each set of dc. Dc in last dc same as in row 2. Ch 3 with cream and turn.
R5-93) Repeat rows 3 and 4, ending with a row 3 repeat. Finish off cream and cut.

Border
R1) With red, sl st to top of ch 3 of previous row, ch 3. Dc in next dc and each dc across. Work one extra dc at the corner and turn, working 2 dc into the side of each stitch. Continue working dc around the blanket, working and extra dc in each corner. Join with sl st to beginning ch 3, ch 3.
R2) Dc in each dc around, working 3 dc into each corner dc. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3, finish off, weave in all ends.

For best results with Red Heart Super Saver yarn, immediately wash and use a quality fabric softener such as Downy or Snuggle. Dry in the dryer and the result will be a beautiful soft and snuggly blanket.
